360. Fixed light at Espirito Santo. 
The Brazilian Government has given No 
tice, that a light has been established on the 
hill of Santa Luzia, entrance of Espirito 
Santo bay. 
The light is a fixed white light, elevated 
66 feet above high water, and in clear wea 
ther should be seen from a distance of 12 
miles. 
The illuminating apparatus is dioptric or 
by lenses, of the fourth order. 
The tower is situated on the hill of Santa 
Luzia on the south side of the bay.

Anzündung eines (neuen) Feuers an 
der Espirito Santo-Bai. 
Auf einem südwärts von und an dem Ein 
lauf der Bai von Espirito Santo gelegenen 
Hügel, Namens Santa Luzia, ist ein (neues) 
weisses, festes Feuer angezündet worden. 
Dasselbe befindet sich in einer Höhe von 
64 rheinl. Fuss (20,j Met.) über Hochwasser 
und ist bei klarer Luft 12 Seemeilen weit 
sichtbar.

The following information relative to the 
position of a sunken rock in the anchorage 
bay on the south-west side of Shadwan is 
land, is from the survey now in progress by 
Captain (i. S. Nares, R. N\, of II. M. Sur 
veying Vessel Shearwater, 1871. 
(All Bearings are Magnetic. Variation 
5° 40' Westerly in 1871.) 
The small sunken rock, described in page 
113 of the Sailing Directions for the Red 
Sea, to be nearly in the middle of the bay 
recommended as an excellent anchorage du 
ring north-west winds, on the south-west side 
of Shadwan island, is situated much nearer 
the shore and the anchorage limits than is 
shown bv the detached danger on chart No. 
2838. 
It lies about 5'/* cables from the shore, 
with the extreme of the low sandy point for 
ming the western side of bay bearing N. W.

Ihrer Grossbritannischen Maj. Vermessungs 
schiff „Shearwater*, macht bekannt, dass die 
kleine blinde Klippe, welche in dem engl. 
Werke „Sailing Directions for the Red Sea“ 
Seite 113 beschrieben ist, nahezu in der 
Mitte der an der Südwestseite der Insel 
Shadwan befindlichen und bei nordwestlichen 
Winden vorzüglichen Ankerrhede liegt und 
dass sie in viel geringerer Entfernung vom 
Lande und von der Grenze der Ankerrhede 
gelegen ist, als in der engl. Admiralitäts- 
Karte „Strait of Jubal“ No. 2838 angedeu 
tet ist. 
Die Klippe liegt in ungefähr 5,5 Kblg. 
Entfernung vom Lande und 8,5 Kabellängen 
S0z0 3 /40. von dem äussersten Punkte des 
flachen Sandstreifens, welcher die westliche
