Ship data
Checked:
1. Origin
• The origin of the ship data used must be known.
• Ship data must originate from an authorised source (e.g. shipyard documents).
2. Validity
• The validity of the ship data used must be confirmed by the particular source.
3. Quality
• Ship data must be sufficiently accurate in accordance with their particular use. This applies par
ticularly to the accuracy of ship geometry and sensor locations (see also Harmonisation).
• The topicality of ship data must be ensured. Corresponding mechanisms for updating data, eg
after changes in the sensor technology, must be available.
• Ship data must not be mutually contradictory. This should be borne in mind particularly if ship
data are not kept in a central data bank. Multiple storage of data of the same type
should be avoided.
4. Harmonisation
• When storing ship data, care should be taken to ensure a consistent unit system; appropriate test
procedures should be provided.
• Space-related data (e.g. sensor locations) should be represented in a uniform coordinate system.
If the origin of this system is not identical to the reference point of the ship, the reference between
the two must be known.
• The accuracy of ship data should be harmonised in line with the accuracy of the sensor technol
ogy. Space-related ship data (dimensions, sensor locations) must possess at least
the same accuracy as the best position determination methods available at any given time.
5. Criticality
• Mechanisms should be provided in order to protect ship data from unintentional change.
• It must be ensured that ship data can be modified only by authorised persons.
6. Limit values and alarm facilities
• Attempt at unauthorised modification of ship data.
• Mutual inconsistencies of the ship data.
7. Representation/display
• A central display of the stored ship data should be provided. The following data should be
contained for each datum: exact designation, origin, date of last change.
