4.2.4 Management of data and reference parameters
The data memories shown on DFD 3 model the reference systems and data bases needed within an
Integrated Navigation System:
Vessel-related parameters like ships dimensions or manoeuvring characteristics.
Geographical data, e. g. the data base for nautical charts.
Navigational reference parameters: geodetical reference systems, sensor locations, reference systems
for sensor data.
A distinction will be made between data and parameters used for future planning ("Preplanned pa
rameters/data") and current parameters. Preplanned information will be used for instance within the task
area voyage planning to get a specific area for planning for future operational states of the vessel.
Current information will be provided continuously based on available state variables and related to the
actual position and the actual movement of the vessel.
It is not necessary for these data and parameters to be administered centrally; they can also be kept
locally. If this is the case, however, particular attention should be paid to questions of consistency and
access rights.
