Übersicht 
in der Bottenwiek liegt in den Schären meist mor- 
sches Festeis. Im Westen reicht zwischen Luleä und 
\ygrän eine riesige Fläche mit dichtem bis sehr 
dichtem Eis bis etwa Nahkiainen und Ulkokalla hin- 
aus. Ansonsten kommt überwiegend offenes Wasser 
vor. 
Overview 
In the Bay of Bothnia mostly rotten fast ice is 
present in the northern archipelagos. In the west, 
a vast area of close to very close ice goes from 
Lulea and Nygrän up to about Nahkiainen and 
Ulkokalla. Else there is mostly open water or ice 
free. 
Bottenwiek 
Finnische Küste: Die nördlichen Schären sind mit 
20-60 cm dickem, morschem Festeis bedeckt. An- 
schließend folgt überwiegend offenes Wasser bis 
Malören-Ulkokalla-Nahkiainen. In der Nähe von 
xemi 2 und Kemi 1 und nördlich von Merikallat trei- 
ben große dicke Schollen, die vom Festeis abgebro- 
chen sind. Weiter im Westen ist noch dichtes bis 
sehr dichtes, aufgepresstes Eis mit einer Dicke von 
20-60 cm bis etwa Simpgrunet-Ulkokalla zu finden. 
Schwedische Küste: In den nördlichen Schären 
iegt 30-70 cm dickes, teilweise morsches Festeis 
Abseits davon folgt meist offenes Wasser mit eini- 
gen Treibeisgürteln darin. Bei Kemi 1, Merikallat und 
Mallören treiben große Eischollen, die vom Festeis 
abgebrochen sind. 
Auf See treibt bis etwa Farstugrunden-Merikallat-5 
sm nördlich von Ulkokalla-Nygrän erst 10-50 cm 
dickes, dichtes bis sehr dichtes Eis und dann 10-40 
cm dickes, lockeres bis sehr lockeres Eis. 
Norra Kvarken 
Stellenweise kommt an den Küsten noch morsches 
Eis vor. 
Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: The northern archipelagos are 
covered by rotten, 20-60 cm thick fast ice. Farther 
out, mainly open water occurs up to approximately 
Malören-Ulkokalla-Nahkiainen. Close to Kemi 2 
and Kemi 1 as well as north of Merikallat large thick 
ice floes which have broken off the fast ice are drift- 
ing in the open water. Westwards, there is still 
3lose to very close 20-60 cm thick ridged ice up to 
approximately Simpgrunet-Ulkokalla. 
Swedish Coast: In the northern archipelagos there 
is 30-70 cm thick partly rotten fast ice. Off the 
northern fast ice edge there is predominately open 
water with some drift ice belts. At Kemi 1, Merikallat 
and Mallören large ice floes which have broken off 
the fast ice are drifting in the open water. 
At sea, up to Farstugrunden-Merikallat-5 nm north 
of Ulkokalla-Nygrän, there is first 10-50 cm thick, 
Zlose to very close drift ice followed by 10-40 cm 
thick, mainly open to very open ice. 
Norra Kvarken 
Some rotten ice may still be found in places at the 
zoast.
