Übersicht 
in der Bottenwiek liegt in den Schären Festeis und 
abseits davon 20-75 cm dickes, kompaktes und 
aufgepresstes Treibeis etwa bis Haraholmen-Rahja. 
Südlich davon ist bis hin zur zentralen Ostsee und 
m Finnischen Meerbusen nur noch in Küstennähe 
Eis zu finden. Im Mälarsee kommt überwiegend 
offenes Wasser und morsches Eis vor. 
Overview 
In the Bay of Bothnia fast ice is present in the 
archipelagos and off this ice, there is 20-75 cm 
compact and ridged drift ice up to about 
Haraholmen-Rahja. Further south up to the 
central Baltic Sea and in the Gulf of Finland, ice is 
only present close to the coasts. In Lake Mälaren 
open water and rotten ice occurs. 
Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: The northern archipelagos are 
covered by fast ice with a thickness of 40-70 cm. 
Farther out 40-75 cm compact and ridged drift ice 
follows up to about Kemi 2 and QOulu 5. Further 
south there is 20-70 cm thick, ridged and compact 
drift ice. In the ice field cracks have formed. The ice 
edge runs along the line Nordstömsgrund- 
Ulkokalla. The southern archipelagos are covered 
2y 25-45 cm thick fast ice. South of Ulkokalla 5-20 
cm thick drift ice with varying concentration is pre- 
sent and further south open water is found. 
Swedish Coast: In the archipelagos there is 30-65 
m thick fast ice. Off the northern fast ice edge 
there is 30-60 cm thick consolidated ice. Further 
south there is very close drift ice, 30-50 cm thick 
and with frequent 1-2 nm wide leads in the north 
and 15-40 cm thick ice in the south. The ice edge 
runs from Nordströmsgrund to Ulkokalla. North- 
east of Kokkola lighthouse there is alternating open 
water and 10-25 cm close drift ice. 
Norra Kvarken 
In the Vaasa archipelagos 30-45 cm thick fast ice 
occurs and close to the Swedish coast, there is 
very close 20-40 cm thick ice. Farther out there is 
open water or no ice left. 
Bottenwiek 
Finnische Küste: Die nördlichen Schären sind mit 
40-70 cm dickem Festeis bedeckt. Daran schließt 
sich 40-75 cm dickes, kompaktes und aufgepresstes 
Treibeis bis Kemi 2 und Oulu 5 an. Weiter südlich 
treibt dann 20-70 cm dickes, aufgepresstes und 
kompaktes Eis. Im Eisfeld bilden sich Risse. Die 
Eiskante verläuft entlang Nordstömsgrund-Ulkokalla. 
Die südlichen Schären sind mit 25-45 cm dickem 
Festeis bedeckt. Südlich von Ulkokalla ist 5-20 cm 
dickes Treibeis mit unterschiedlicher Konzentration 
And noch weiter südlich offenes Wasser zu finden. 
Schwedische Küste: In den Schären kommt 30-65 
cm dickes Festeis vor. Abseits davon liegt 30-60 cm 
dickes zusammengeschobenes Eis. Weiter südlich 
creibt sehr dichtes Eis, das im Norden 30-50 cm dick 
Jınd mit 1-2 sm dicken Rinnen durchsetzt und im 
Süden 15-40 cm dick ist. Die Eiskante verläuft ent- 
ang der Linie Nordströmsgrund-Ulkokalla. Nordöst- 
ich von Kokkola kommt abwechseln offenes Wasser 
Jnd 10-25 cm dickes dichtes Treibeis vor. 
Norra Kvarken 
in den Schären von Vaasa liegt 30-45 cm dickes 
Festeis und nahe der schwedischen Küste 20-40 cm 
dickes, sehr dichtes Eis. Weiter außerhalb kommt 
offenes Wasser oder gar kein Eis mehr vor.
