Übersicht 
Die Bottenwiek ist bis auf einen kleinen zentralen 
Teil überwiegend mit Festeis, ebenem, dichtem oder 
\eueis bedeckt. In den Vaasa Schären liegt Festeis 
oder ebenes Eis. In weniger geschützten Bereichen 
kommt offenes Wasser oder sehr lockeres Eis vor. 
Im nördlichen Teil des Finnischen Meerbusens so- 
wie im Rigaischen Meerbusen kommt in den Schä- 
‚en Festeis und außerhalb sehr dichtes, gefolgt von 
sehr lockerem Eis vor. In der südlichen und westli- 
chen Ostsee ist nur noch örtlich Eis zu finden. An 
der norwegischen Küste kommt in geschützten Be- 
’eichen noch stellenweise Eis vor. 
Bottenwiek 
Finnische Küste: Die Schären sind mit 30-55 cm 
dickem Festeis bedeckt, daran schließt sich 20-45 
cm dickes, kompaktes und teilweise aufgepresstes 
Eis an. Weiter außerhalb liegt sehr dichtes, 20-40 
cm dickes und aufgepresstes Eis. Daran anschlie- 
3end folgt Neueis bis etwa 65°N. In der südlichen 
3ottenwiek liegt in den Schären 25-45 cm dickes 
Festeis. Außerhalb davon kommt 10-25 cm dickes, 
sehr dichtes Eis und Neueis vor. 
Schwedische Küste: In den Schären kommt 20-55 
cm dickes Festeis vor. In der nördlichen Bottenwiek 
iegt überwiegend 15-35 cm dickes, sehr dichtes Eis 
nit Presseisrücken und Rissen. Abseits von Farstu- 
grunden liegt eine riesige Scholle mit Presseisrü- 
cken. Südlich davon kommt entlang der Küste ein 
Gürtel mit dünnem ebenen Eis und weiter draußen 
10-25 cm sehr lockeres Drifteis und Neueis vor. 
Norra Kvarken 
in den Schären von Vaasa liegt 15-40 cm dickes 
Festeis. Weiter außerhalb kommt 5-15 cm dickes,

The northern Bay of Bothnia is mostly covered 
with fast ice, level, very close or new ice, except 
for a small spot in the center. In the Vaasa 
archipelagos there is fast ice and level ice. In less 
sheltered areas there is open water or very open 
drift ice. In the northern part of the Gulf of Finland 
and in the Gulf of Riga fast ice is present in the 
archipelagos. Off this, very close ice followed by 
very open ice can be found. In the southern and 
western Baltic Sea, sea ice is only left in places. 
in sheltered areas along the Norwegian coast 
there is some ice in places. 
Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: The archipelagos are covered by 
fast ice with a thickness of 30-55 cm. Off the fast 
ce there is 20-45 cm compact and partly rafted ice. 
Farther out there is very close, 20-40 cm thick and 
idged ice followed by new ice up to about 65°N. In 
the southern Bay of Bothnia there is 25-45 cm thick 
Fast ice in the archipelago. Farther out 10-25 cm 
thick very close ice and new ice is present. 
5wedish Coast: In the archipelagos there is 20-55 
cm thick fast ice. In the northern Bay of Bothnia 
t!here is mostly 15-35 cm thick very close drift ice 
with ridges and fractures. Off Farstugrunden a vast 
floe with ridges occurs. Southwards of Farstugrun- 
den, along the coast, there is a belt with thin level 
ıce and further out there is 10-25 cm thick very 
open drift ice and new ice. 
Norra Kvarken 
In the Vaasa archipelagos 15-40 cm thick fast ice 
occurs. Further out there is 5-15 cm thick close ice
