three hydrographic surveys in a narrow-spaced grid.
Figs. 2, 13, 24, 30 and 41 show, in chronological
order, the positions of the hydrographic stations and
of the moorings,
The investigations had to be limited to areas with
water depths of more than 10 metres. On account of the
strong horizontal gradients the distances between the
hydrographic stations were kept very small. Due to the
strong tidal streams it was, however, useless to reduce
the distances further.
In spite of the relatively small area of investigations
and of the resulting fast hydrographic surveys which
took about 40 hours, the vertical sections may be
regarded as strictly synoptic, whereas the overall
surveys may not. On the stations a CTD system (Bathy-
sonde, HDW) was deployed, and so was a thermo-salino-
yraph between the stations.
Data (G.A. Becker, H. Carlson)
The data of the hydrographic surveys are represented in
the graphs given below, in the form of horizontal dis-
tributions, vertical sections and TS diagrams. The
graphs are grouped according to the three cruise
legs.
Subsequent to the representations of the second leg
those hydrographic observations are shown that are di-
rectly related to the Airborne Remote Sensing Programme.
