New office rooms could be procured for the Blensburg agency; the Bremen,
agency had to remove from., its present office, because of restoration, work at
the Yerwaltungsgebaude am îjberseehafen. Thanks to the generous help of the
Hafenbauamt at Bremen, th® ff.H.I. agency could at once move into newly fixed
up .rooms in a section of the same complex of buildings so that practically
no interruption occurred in the work of the agency.
The volume of the Library continues to grow by exchange and purchase.
The. Archives, could list in 1955 an increase in charts,in special branches a
growth of more than 30 per cent. In the book-store, i.e. the main distributing
section for nautical publications, a considerable rise in. deliveries especial
ly to the AY- .and AYB—Stellen (sales agencies) could be listed. This growth
can be explained by higher requirements of shipping, which are due to the fact
that, although the tonnage of the Deutsche Bundesrepublik is still about one
third lesser than In 1939,. the number of ships is notably larger.
The .exchange of publications of the G-.Bhl. for .similar ones of foreign
countries', especially those of Hydrographie Offices and Scientific Institutes
is being, further extended. In. this connection great care is observed in fil
ling gaps, on the shelves of the library and archives causéd by World War II.

are available for inspection also at numerous harbour authorities according
to an agreement entered into with the International Hydrographic Bureau at Mo
naco; the 6.H.I. being :a member of this institution.
