Mit dieser Fahrt beteiligte sich METEOR gemeinsam mit 4 weiteren deut- 
schen Schiffen an Vorarbeiten zu dem internationalen Programm für die 
Untersuchung der Ostseeverschmutzung, einem Programm im Rahmen der 
Helsinki-Konvention. 
Hauptaufgaben des Unternehmens Baltic ’75 waren: 
Meteorologische und physikalische Untersuchungen über die Wechsel- 
wirkung zwischen Atmosphäre und Ozean, um Modelle über die Wasser- 
transporte und Strömungsverhältnisse im gesamten Ostseeraum zu er- 
stellen; 
Untersuchungen in der Bornholmsee zur Veränderlichkeit biologischer 
und chemischer Größen, über den Nährstoffkreislauf sowie insitu Mes- 
sungen der Sauerstoffzehrung am Meeresboden. Weiter wurden die Ver- 
teilung, die Aufnahme und der Vertikaltransport von Schadstoffen unter- 
sucht; 
Geologische Untersuchungen im Bornholmbecken zur Entwicklungsge- 
schichte nacheiszeitlicher Sedimente. 
Während der Beobachtungszeit wurden im Gebiet der Hanöbucht und 
der nördlichen Bornholmsee über 70 selbstregistrierende Meßinstru- 
mente ausgelegt. Weiterhin wurden in den Küstenorten die Wasserstands- 
registrierungen durch zusätzlich installierte Pegel verstärkt. 
With this cruise METEOR participated in conjunction with 4 other Ger- 
man ships in preparatory works for the programme of the International 
Baltic Pollution Study, a project within the framework of the Helsinki 
Convention. 
The undertaking was divided into three main objectives: 
meteorological and physical investigations of the interaction between 
atmosphere and ocean with the aim to establish models for the water 
transport and current systems in the entire Baltic; 
investigations in the Bornholm Sea in order to observe the variability 
of biological and chemical parameters, investigations of the nutrient 
cycle as well as in-situ measurements of the oxygen consumption at 
the sediment/sea water interface. In addition, the distribution, the up- 
take and the vertical transport of noxious substances were investigated; 
geological investigations in the Bornholm Basin of the historic develop- 
ment of post glacial sediments. 
During the period of investigation more than seventy measuring instru- 
ments were moored in the area of the Hanö Bight and the northern 
Bornholm Sea. Tide gauges were installed in several places along the coast 
line of the above area to support the registration of water level fluctuations 
in the entire Baltic Sea area.
