Half a synodic month can be mapped to the transit times of the Moon. The tran-
sit hour is the time of the Moon’s transit after midnight or after noon. A transit
with 0 transit hours corresponds to a full moon or a new moon.
Within a synodic month, the Moon transits every 24 hours. Atransit hour (Trh)
can be defined as 1/24 of the synodic month:
1 Trh 360° 1 15° 29,5306 h
= ——z 5 = ————z = 29, ;
(S-h) 24 (s$-h)
The period of the semi-monthly inequality (HU) can be converted into a corre-
sponding angular velocity:
JHU =
360° .
Pr - 2($ — h) = 1,01589576°/h = 30°/Trh
HU
The angular velocity ou is used in the model function for the analysis of the
semi-monthly inequality.
