III. Shoal off* Pc rim Island. 
Information has been received from the 
Commander of the Steam vessel Evora, 
that in passing the north-west side of Perirn 
island, the ship grounded in 18 feet water, 
three quarters of a mile from the shore, and 
remained there upwards of 48 hours. 
From the position in which the ship struck, 
the lighthouse bore S. E. l /i E., and the west 
point of the island S. by W. x f% W. nearly 
a mile. The water gradually shoaled towards 
the shore, but increased to 5 and 7 fathoms 
one cable to seaward. 
N ote. Mariners are cautioned in ap 
proaching this locality, as the extent of the 
shoal ground is yet unknown.

Das Dampfschiff „Evora“ kam beim Pas- 
siren der nordwestlichen Küste der Insel Pe 
rim auf 18 Fuss Wasser auf Grund, 3 /i Seem. 
von der Küste entfernt und verblieb hier über 
48 Stunden. 
Von der Stelle, auf welcher das Schiff’ 
stiess, wurde der Leuchtthurm SO x /tO und 
die westliche Spitze der Insel SzW’/aW, ca. 
1 Seem. gepeilt. Das Wasser wurde nach 
der Küste zu allmählig flacher, die Tiefe 
nahm aber 1 Kabellänge nach See hin bis 
auf 5 und 7 Faden zu. 
Bemerkung. Bei Annäherung an diese 
Stelle ist besondere Vorsicht nöthig, da die 
Ausdehnung dieser Untiefe bis jetzt noch 
unbekannt ist.
