punta più sporgente ilei porto, peroni ora sarà 
visible pressoché in tutta la lunghezza del 
canale tanto dai bastimenti proveniente da 
P. M. che da quelli provenienti da Lev.

Information lias been received from Cap 
tain Bartlett, of the British barque Britomart, 
of a reef seen by him during a recent voyage 
from Australia to Hongkong. 
Britomart Beef. This reef, close to 
which the Britomart passed, is level with 
the water, and from 400 to 500 feet long. 
It lies nearly 75 leagues to the westward of 
Assumption island, one of the northern of 
the Ladrone group, and the position as de 
termined. lat. 19 19' N., long. 141 ‘14’ E. 
The Britomart afterwards passed over the 
assigned position of Lindsay island, lat. 19 
20' N.. long. 141 15’ K., but it was not vi 
sible from the masthead, in line clear daylight 
Captain Bartlett also reports passing near 
the Minto reef in the Caroline islands. This 
reef is described as being 10 miles long, east 
and west, and level with the water except 
near the northern part, where it rises about 
fi feet above the sea The position as given, 
lat. 8° 10’ N.. long. 154 ill' E.. was found 
to be correct
