• Herausgabe der 5. Auflage der Broschüre „Sicher 
heit im See- und Küstenbereich“, die als eine der 
Grundlagen für den Erwerb des Sportbootführer 
scheins gilt und kostenlos beim BSH bezogen wer 
den kann. 
Vielseitig: Elektronisches 
Seekarteninformationssystem 
Neben den Originalkarten in Papier gibt es ein hoch 
wertiges elektronisches Navigationssystem, bei dem 
die Qualität der digitalen Daten ausschlaggebend für 
maximale Sicherheit ist: ECDIS, das elektronische 
Seekarteninformationssystem (Electronic Chart 
waypoints for easier cruise planning and naviga 
tion; 3 chart series were exceptionally published 
as 2002 editions supplemented by a 2003 
summary of corrections with blocks and overlay 
correction tracings. 
• Of the total of 50 nautical books, 17 new editions 
and 4 supplements were published, including a 
handbook with 2,500 standard marine communica 
tion phrases to ensure unambiguous communica 
tion on board. 
• Weekly publication of the German notices to mari 
ners with over 3,280 chart corrections, 790 hand 
book corrections, 330 corrections to lists of lights, 
and over 340 notifications to mariners. 
• The radio navigational warnings service, which is 
supervised by the BSH, issued about 540 naviga 
tional warnings to ensure the safety of navigation. 
• Publication of the 5th edition of the brochure 
“Sicherheit im See- und Küstenbereich” (safety at 
sea and in coastal waters), which is part of the 
course curriculum for the yachting licence and is 
available from the BSH free of charge.

Information System 
Besides the traditional paper charts, there also exists 
an advanced electronic navigation system which 
depends on high-quality digital data to ensure maxi 
mum safety: ECDIS, the Electronic Chart Display and 
Information System. Based on the official digital chart
