Elektronisches Seekarteninformations 
system 
Neben den Originalkarten in Papier gibt es ein hoch 
wertiges elektronisches Navigationssystem, bei dem 
die Qualität der digitalen Daten ausschlaggebend für 
maximale Sicherheit ist: ECDIS, das elektronische 
Seekarteninformationssystem (Electronic Chart Display 
and Information System). ECDIS basiert auf amtlichen 
digitalen Seekartendaten (ENCs) und erfüllt somit den 
IMO-Lelstungsstandard zur Ausrüstungspfllcht mit 
amtlichen, aktuell gehaltenen Seekarten.

ECDIS can be combined with radar systems, satellite

tionality than conventional paper charts or their scan 
ned versions. The complete Information about a par 
ticular sea area, which traditionally has been pro 
vided by paper charts, Sailing Directions, Lists of 
Lights and other nautical publications, Is now dis 
played on a terminal. 
The chart data produced by the BSH for ECDIS as 
well as the regular digital data updates are distrib 
uted through an International data centre In the UK 
(IC-ENC) which also co-operates with the Hydrogra 
phic Offices of Australia, Belgium, Chile, Greece, the 
United Kingdom, India, the Netherlands, Portugal,
