• Die Initiative der Internationalen Stiftung für Seerecht
(IFLOS - International Foundation for the Law of the
Sea), die auch vom BSH unterstützt wird - veranstaltete
Im Internationalen Seegrichtshof ein Symposium zu
Fragen der seerechtllchen Abgrenzungen, an dem
Seerechtsexperten aus aller Welt teilnahmen.
WETTBEWERBSFÄHIG
Schiffsstandort Deutschland
Mit mehr als 200 000 Beschäftigten und einer Ge
samtwertschöpfung von über 20 Mrd. Euro spielt die
maritime Wirtschaft in Deutschland volks- und reglo-
nalwlrtschaftllch eine zentrale Rolle und leistet einen
wesentlichen Beitrag zur Arbeitsplatzsicherung.
Doch gute Wachstumsperspektiven, etwa Im Interna
tionalen Warenaustausch über See und beim See
hafenumschlag, sowie ein hervorragender weltweit
dritter Rang deutscher Reeder In der Handelsflotte
dürfen nicht darüber hinweg täuschen, dass sich die
Handelsflotte unter deutscher Flagge in einem harten
wettbewerbspolitischen Umfeld behaupten muss.
Die Schifffahrt muss wie kaum eine andere Branche
zeitgemäße Antworten auf einen globalisierten Wett
bewerb finden. Um den deutschen Standort für Ree
dereien weiter attraktiver zu machen, stellt der Bund
im Rahmen des Maritimen Bündnisses für Beschäfti
gung und Ausbildung Finanzmittel zur Senkung der
Lohnnebenkosten und zur Ausblldungsförderung auf
Handelsschiffen unter deutscher Flagge bereit. Für

• The BSH organised an international conference on
biodiversity attended by the representatives of
33 countries, in the course of which recent findings
on biodiversity in the marine environment and pos
sibilities of closer co-operation were discussed.
• The Symposium on current problems of the marine
environment, which was held for the 14 th time, dealt
with topics including the development of ocean policy,
marine spatial planning, offshore wind energy, fisheries
and biodiversity, and marine environmental protection.
• The discussions of maritime law at Rostock University’s
Ostseeinstitut für Seerecht und Umweltrecht
(Institute for Maritime and Environmental Law), in which
the BSH has participated for 12 years now, dealt with
the total revision of port and harbour law - Port State
Control, emergency berthing, refuge harbours, ship
waste disposal.
• The initiative of the International Foundation for the
Law of the Sea (IFLOS), which is supported by the
BSH, organised a symposium on questions of maritime
delimitation at the International Tribunal for the Law of
the Sea, which was attended by international experts in
maritime law.

Industry In Germany Is playing a central role both on
the regional level and for the national economy as a
whole, and it contributes substantially toward secu
ring jobs. Nevertheless, good growth perspectives,
for example in the international exchange of goods in
seaborne trade and transhipments in ports, or the
German shipping companies’ excellent third position
In the ranking of International merchant fleets cannot
conceal the fact that the merchant fleet under the
German flag is operating in an environment of fierce
competition.
