approvals for offshore wind farms In Germany’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) 
In the North and Baltic Seas. That Includes not only the 31 currently 
planned wind farm projects, but also projects like, e.g., the Baltic Sea pipeline 
and the North European gas pipeline. 
The discussions surrounding offshore wind farm projects have plainly shown 
that the different projects planned In these areas may conflict with one 
another and with environmental protection and nature conservation Interest. 
Therefore, the task of marine spatial planning covering all uses In the EEZ, 
which was assigned to the BSH In 2004, comprises the co-ordination 
of all approved uses and of environmental protection Interests In the area In 
order to ensure a sustainable development.
