Qualitätsstandard der rund 500 Seekarten der europäischen Gewässer aus,
darunter 60 Seekarten deutscher Seegebiete und Häfen. Die wöchentlich
erscheinenden Nachrichten für Seefahrer (NfS) sorgen dafür, dass die BSH-
Karten und die 50 Seehandbücher jederzeit aktualisiert werden können.
Neben den Papierseekarten produziert das BSH auch die Seekartendaten
- die sogenannten ENCs - und regelmäßige Updates für das elektronische
Seekarteninformationssystem ECDIS, das den IMO-Lelstungsstandard zur
Ausrüstungspflicht mit amtlichen, aktuell gehaltenen Seekarten erfüllt. Die
vom BSH produzierten 130 ENCs für die deutschen Seegebiete In Nord- und
Ostsee - das entspricht 54 Seekarten einschließlich 106 Hafenpläne - werden
über ein Internationales Datenzentrum In Großbritannien vertrieben, das mit
Hydrographischen Diensten aus aller Welt kooperiert.

Up-to-date nautical charts and other nautical publications are mandatory on
board seagoing ships to avoid hazards to shipping and the marine environment.
Due to frequent changes In features of navigational Importance, e. g. fairway
depths, the nautical charts and publications - Including those carried on board -
have to be continually updated.
The BSH Is the maritime authority Issuing all official German navigational charts
and Sailing Directions as well as small-format chart folios and publications
for recreational boating. Accuracy and up-to-dateness are the hallmarks of
the BSH’s about 500 high-quality official charts of European sea areas, which
Include 60 charts covering German waters and harbours. Continual updates
