Im Rahmen von externen Forschungsprojekten 
sind auch in 2010 Navigationssysteme unter 
sucht und verbessert worden. Schwerpunkt 
waren die Arbeiten zu „integrierten Navigations 
systemen“ im Zusammenhang mit den Vorhaben 
zum Thema „e-Navigation“, aber auch Einzel 
untersuchungen wie ein Projekt zu „Schallsignal 
empfangsanlagen“. 
Mit lang andauernden Versuchsreihen wurde die 
Marktüberwachung von Schiffsausrüstung eben 
so unterstützt wie die Bundesstelle für Seeunfall 
untersuchung; eine Aufgabe mit zunehmender 
Tendenz. 
Hersteller aus der ganzen Welt lassen ihre Pro 
totypen für die Zulassung zur Serienproduktion 
im BSH prüfen. 90 Prozent aller in Europa zuge 
lassenen Navigationsgeräte werden hier getes 
tet. 2010 wurden vom BSH etwa 200 derartige 
Prüfungen durchgeführt. 75 Geräte haben eine 
EU-Zulassung durch BSH-Cert, 20 eine nationa 
le Zulassung erhalten. 
Das BSH überwacht mit seinem technischen 
Bereich auch die Umsetzung des LRIT (Long 
Range Information and Tracking) auf deutschen 
Schiffen im europäischen Rahmen und unter 
stützt Zulassung und Überwachung von navi 
gationsbezogenen Ausbildungskursen für die 
Seeleute. 
Marktüberwachung 
Damit keine sicherheitsgefährdenden Schiffsaus 
rüstungen auf Schiffen zum Einsatz kommen, 
nimmt das BSH auch die Aufgaben einer EU 
weit geregelten Marktüberwachung wahr. Dies 
gilt für alle Produktbereiche nach Anhang A.1 
EG-Schiffsausrüstungslinie von 1996. Ange 
fangen von Rettungsringen und Feuerlöschern 
über Freifallrettungsboote, Feuerschutztüren, 
Abwasseraufbereitungssysteme bis hin zu 
Funkgeräten und Radaranlagen werden nicht 
normungsgerechte Produkte ermittelt. Dies 
geschieht entweder im Rahmen eines kontinuier 
lichen Überwachungsprogramms oderaufgrund 
konkreter Hinweise.

Manufacturers from all over the world are 
sending equipment prototypes to the BSH for 
type-testing and approval. Ninety per cent of all 
navigation and radiocommunication systems 
approved in Germany have been tested here. In 
2010, the BSH type-tested about 200 products, 
75 of which obtained EC type examination certifi 
cates by BSH-cert, and 20 national certificates. 
The BSH’s technical division also supervises 
LRIT (Long Range Information and Tracking) 
equipment installation on board German ships 
within the scope of EU regulations, and it sup 
ports the approval and supervision of navigation- 
related training courses for seafarers. 
Market surveillance 
To prevent use of unsafe equipment on board 
ships, the BSH carries out market surveillance of 
navigational equipment in compliance with appli 
cable EU regulations. All products listed in Annex 
A. 1 EC Marine Equipment Directive of 1996 are 
subject to these regulations. The BSH is looking 
for non-complying products: from lifebuoys, fire 
extinguishers, freefall lifeboats, fire doors, and 
waste water treatment systems to radio equip 
ment and radar systems. It reacts to concrete 
information received or identifies non-complying 
products in the course of routine surveillance.
