Neues Projekt „Marine Daten Infrastruktur
Deutschland (MDI-DE)“ gestartet
Im August 2010 wurde das Projekt "Marine
Dateninfrastruktur Deutschland (MDI-DE)"
gestartet. Sein Ziel ist die umfassende Bereitstel
lung von Fachdaten und Informationen aus dem
Küsten- und Meeresbereich für Wissenschaft,
Planung, Öffentlichkeit, Politik und Verwaltung
gemäß den Anforderungen an eine integrierte
europäische Meerespolitik.
Mit Hilfe dieser neuen Geodäten Infrastruktur
sollen die bislang über Bund und Länder verteil
ten marinen Fachdaten vernetzt und in einem
Geodatenportal zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
Da Anforderungen an eine interdisziplinäre Da
tenauswertung ständig zunehmen, integriert das
nationale Meeres- und Küsteninformations
system MDI-DE die wesentlichen Datenquellen
über alle Behörden- und Institutsgrenzen hin
weg.
Seit September 2010 und noch bis August 2013
finanziert das Bundesministerium für Bildung
und Forschung (BMBF) dieses Vorhaben als

The German MDI-DE marine data infrastruc
ture project was launched in August 2010. Its
purpose is to centralise technical and scientific
data and information covering the coastal and
maritime areas and to make the data available
to scientific institutions, political and planning
bodies, the public, and the administration, as
part of a joint effort to establish an integrated
European maritime policy.
The novel geospatial data infrastructure links the
marine data available at different German federal
and Government institutions and integrates them
in a data portal. Growing demand for interdisci
plinary data evaluation has led to the develop
ment of MDI-DE, a national marine and coastal
information system which integrates the essen
tial data sources available, beyond the borders of
individual authorities or institutions.
This integrative project funded by the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research from Sep
tember 2010 to August 2013 comprises the fields

Verbundprojekt mit den Themenbereichen Küs
teningenieurwesen und Küstengewässerschutz
(BAW), Meeresumweltschutz (BSH), Meeres
naturschutz (BfN) und Wissenschaftliche Begleit
forschung (Uni Rostock).
Die beteiligten Einrichtungen in den Küstenlän
dern Niedersachsen (NLWKN, NLPV,
WSD-NW), Schleswig-Holstein (LKN, LLUR,
WSD-N), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LUNG,
BfN - Insel Vilm) und Hamburg (BAW, BSH)
unterstützen die Entwicklung mit erheblichen
Eigenleistungen. Insgesamt werden ^Wissen
schaftler für drei Jahre an neun Standorten
daran arbeiten, eine einheitliche Datengrundlage
technisch mit standardisierten Metadaten und
Web-Services aufzubereiten, die zur Erfüllung
gesetzlicher Anforderungen von INSPIRE und
anderen EU-Richtlinien genutzt werden können.

Each of the participating institutions in the Ger
man coastal states of Lower Saxony, Schles
wig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and
Hamburg provides substantial funds supporting
the project development.
In the course of the three-year project period,
12 scientists at nine locations will develop a
uniform database using standardised metadata
and web services which are suitable to achieve
compliance with statutory requirements under
INSPIRE and other EU Directives.
The national marine data infrastructure to be
established will be based on the existing techni
cal infrastructure, e.g. the North and Baltic Sea
coastal information system (NOKIS) and the
