ein Lebensraum, der enorme wirtschaftliche 
Wachstumschancen bietet. Zugleich macht der

den Meeren noch dringlicher, denn sie sind 
im globalen Klimasystem ein wesentliches

The oceans are gaining in importance. They are 
an environment that offers enormous economic 
potential. At the same time, in the face of 
current climate change, it is imperative to 
ensure sustainable use of the oceans, which 
are an important element in the global climate 
system. This also affects the activities of the 
Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency 
(BSH) and its function as Germany’s maritime 
agency. 
Well-founded scientific knowledge and ongoing 
research and development are indispensable 
for the BSH’s work. Without these prerequisites,

listen und alle an Meeresthemen Interessierte 
ist auch die Fachbibliothek des BSH mit ihrer 
einzigartigen Sammlung maritimer Literatur 
und Seekarten.
