Full text: Modelling large scale sediment transport in the German Bight (North Sea)

Die Küste, 81 (2014), 369-392

The first step was to compile bathymetric data from die different data sources
(Tab. 2). Fig. 4 illustrates die spatial and temporal distribution of die different batiiymet-
ric surveys which have been subject to the quality assessment of die hydrographic survey
requirements; most of diem have been performed in die Elbe, Weser and Ems estuaries
and, subsequently, within the shallow waters down to 20 m of water depths in different
time intervals.
In die next step the bathymetric database was enhanced with relevant metadata in or
der to describe die survey data in a comprehensive manner. The spatial confidence re
gion, die temporal confidence interval, the accuracy of measurement and die recom
mended interpolation method are specified in the metadata for each data set, for example.
In total, 1.7 billion data from more than 16,000 bathymetric surveys have been com
piled in this way covering a time span from 1948 to 2012.
