5.3.7 Method validation and quality control
5.3.7.1 Limits of detection and quantification
Typically, limits of detection (LOD, signal-to-noise ratio 3:1) for s- or mPCAs in fish
liver were about 1 ng/g and limits of quantification (LOQ, signal-to-noise ratio 10:1)
were ca. 3 ng/g. Chlordanes could be identified down to 1-3 pg/g and quantified from
ca. 2-10 pg/g and onwards.
Single PCA congener groups in sediments were detectable down to ca. 5-50 ng/g
depending on their structure. Limits of quantification were about 3-5 times higher.
Total PCAs in sediments could be quantified with EI-MS/MS down to 2-8 ng/g.
