Information of the lcebreaker Services
Finland
The Saimaa Canal is closed for traffic.
icebreaker: OTSO, KONTIO and SISU assist in the northern Bay of Bothnia. URHO assists in the southern
Bay of Bothnia. VOIMA assists in the Gulf of Finland.
Russia
Tow boat-barges are not assisted to St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga.
icebreaker: Low-powered vessels to St. Petersburg can be assisted at need by port icebreakers SEMYAN
JEZNEV, KAPITAN ZARUBIN, KARU and KAPITAN SOROKIN, in the port Primorsk by icebreaker ERMAK
Low-powered vessel in the ports Vyborg and Vysotsk are assisted by icebreakers KAPITAN IZMAILOV and
TOR, in the port Ust-Luga by icebreaker MOSKVA.
Sweden
Vessels not suitable for winter navigation, river vessels and tugs with barge can not expect governmental
cebreaker assistance. All ships entering harbours in the Gulf of Bothnia shall, when passing Svenska Björn
IN 59° 33’ E 20° 01’) contact the VTS Gävle on VHF channel 84.
icebreaker: YMER and ATLE assist in the Bay of Bothnia. FREJ assists in the Quark. ALE assists in the
Quark and in the northern Sea of Bothnia.
No transit traffic through the Quark west of Holmöarna is allowed
