Information of the Icebreaker Sarvis:-
Finland
The Saimaa Canal is closed for traffic.
Icebreaker: FENNICA, KONTIO and OTSO assist in the northern Bay of Bothnia.
Vessels bound for Finnish ports and requiring icebreaker assistance shall, well in advance of entering ice-
covered waters, report to an icebreaker in accordance with instructions given in the daily ice report. In
addition, vessels bound for Gulf of Bothnia ports in which traffic restrictions apply shall, when passing
Svenska Björn, report their nationality, name, port of destination, ETA and speed to VTS Gävle on VHF
channel 84. This report can also be given directly by phone + 46 26 647 150 or +46 26 647 151. If
required, due to the ice conditions, the position for reporting can be transferred farther to the south.
Vessels in the Gulf of Finland of 300 GT or more are required to report to the GOFREP Traffic Centre.
A vessel stuck in ice must notify the icebreaker of its position without delay.
Russia
Tow boat-barges are not assisted to St. Petersburg. Vessels without ice class are not assisted to ports
Vyborg and Vysotsk.
icebreaker: MUDJUG, KAPITAN ZARUBIN and YURI LISYANSKI assist low-powered vessels to St.
Petersburg, KAPITAN IZMAILOV to Vyborg and Vysotsk.
Sweden
All ships entering harbours in the Gulf of Bothnia shall, when passing Svenska Björn (N 59°33’ E20°01’)
sontact the VTS Gävle on VHF channel 84.
Icebreaker: YMER assists in the northern Bay of Bothnia, ATLE and ALE assist in the southern Bay of
Bothnia.
