10-30 cm dickes Festeis, weiter außerhalb kommt 
offenes Wasser vor. Schwedische Küste: In der 
Einfahrt zum Holmsund kommt teilweise sehr dichtes 
5-15 cm dickes Eis, auf See meist offenes Wasser 
vor.

Holmsund there is partly very close 5-15 cm thick 
ice, at sea mostly open water. 
Bottenvik 
Die Eisgrenze auf See verläuft von Gäsören nach 
Simpgrundet und Falkensgrund und von da in einem 
Bogen nach Kemi 1. Der Eisrand wird aus festge- 
stampftem Eis gebildet. Finnische Küste: In den 
nördlichen inneren Schären 30-55 cm dickes Festeis. 
Außerhalb Oulu 1 erstreckt sich eine 10 sm breite 
Rinne. Weiter westwärts liegt bis zur Linie Malören — 
-alkensgrund 10-20 cm dickes, teilweise aufge- 
presstes Eis. In den südlichen Schären liegt 10-20 
om dickes Festeis, außerhalb davon treibt örtlich 
sehr lockeres Eis. Schwedische Küste: In den nörd- 
lichen Schären 25-60 cm dickes Festeis. Außerhalb 
davon erstreckt sich bis etwa der Linie Kägnäset — 
Falkensgrund — 10 sm südlich von Malören ein 
Gebiet aus sehr dichtem 10-35 cm dicken Treibeis 
und zusammengefrorenem dünnen Eis. Östlich 
davon liegt 10-20 cm dickes ebenes Eis, teilweise 
übereinandergeschoben. Südlich von Bjuröklubb tritt 
entlang der Küste bis Holmöarna dünnes kompaktes 
Eis auf. 
Bay of Bothnia 
The ice edge at sea runs from Gäsören to 
Simpgrundet and Falkensgrund and then curves 
towards Kemi 1. At the ice edge there is a brash ice 
barrier. Finnish Coast: In the northern inner 
archipelago 30-55 cm thick fast ice. Off Oulu 1 
there is a 10 nm wide lead. Farther out there is 10- 
20 cm thick, partly ridged ice up to the line Malören 
Falkensgrund. In the southern archipelago there 
:s 10-20 cm thick fast ice, farther out there is very 
open ice, in places. Swedish Coast: In the 
northern archipelago fast ice, 25-60 cm thick. 
Farther off up to about the line Kägnäset — 
Falkensgrund — 10 nm south of Malören there is a 
vast area composed of very close 10-35 cm thick 
drift ice and <consolidated thin ice. Farther 
eastwards there is 10-20 cm thick level ice, partly 
rafted. South of Bjuröklubb to Holmöarna there is 
compact thin ice along the coast. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
Ein Tief über Südskandinavien verlagert sich 
langsam ost-/nordostwärts und bestimmt bis zum 
Ende dieser Woche die Witterung im nördlichen Ost- 
seeraum. Die Lufttemperaturen im finnischen Meer- 
busen bleiben über den Gefrierpunkt, bei leichtem 
Wind aus Ost bis Südost sind hier nur leichte, 
windbedingte Änderungen der Eisbedeckung zu 
erwarten. In der Bottenvik treibt das Eis durch den 
Ostwind, der langsam auf Nord dreht, vorwiegend in 
westliche Richtungen, was zu weiteren Auf- 
schiebungen und Pressungen führen kann. Bei leicht 
fallenden Temperaturen setzt dort am Wochenende 
auch wieder Neueisbildung ein. 
Expected Ice Development 
Till the end of this week, the weather in the northern 
‚egion of the Baltic Sea will be affected by a low 
over southern Scandinavia moving slowly east- 
'northeastwards. In the Gulf of Finland the air 
*emperatures will stay above freezing, the ice 
situation changes only slightly due to drift caused 
by light easterly to south-easterly winds. In the Bay 
of Bothnia the wind will veer from easterly to 
northerly directions, the ice will drift mostly to the 
west and on some rafting and ridging may occur. 
The temperatures there will decrease slowly and 
over the weekend new ice formation can start 
again.
