Häufigkeitsverteilung von Oberflächentemperaturmeldungen (SST) in 2002 aus dem Global 
Telecommunication System (GTS) der WMO. Obwohl SST der bestbeobachtete ozeano- 
graphische Zustandsparameter ist, ist eine Beobachtungsdichte von weniger als 10 Meldun 
gen im ganzen Jahr (grau) in weiten Seegebieten abseits der Schifffahrtsrouten (ca. 70% der 
Gesamtfläche) unbefriedigend. Die meisten „hochfrequenten" Beobachtungsplattformen (&gt; 
999 Meldungen, rot) sind Stationen des britischen MAWS Netzwerks und MARNET Statio 
nen des BSH.
