Collision Induced Dissociation: A mass spectrometric techniques,
where a molecular ion or a fragment ion is further fragmented by
collision with e.g. Ar atoms to increase the selectivity of detection.

ECNI-MS
Electron Capture Negative Ion Mass Spectrometry: A mass
spectrometric technique, where electrons of thermal energy are
generated in the ion source. These can only be captured by com
pounds of high electron affinity such as polychlorinated pesticides.
Since most matrix residues do not capture such thermal electron,
background is suppressed and selectivity increased.
El
Electron Ionisation: The standard ionsation technique in mass
spectrometry, where compounds are ionised with electrons of high
energy (normally 70 eV)
